the scale was kind this morning

and I am back on track. Down to 138. Week 2 ended with a nice long run at lunch. I decided at the spur of the moment to extend my lunch time run by going a little further down the road and then loop back. I had no idea how much more this would add on to the run, but I was pleased when I got back to track it and found out it was 3.38 miles. I had debated about going because of a pain along the back of my right thigh, but I felt good and decided to keep going. It seems to feel a little easier to run. I’m not saying I love running but I am beginning to see the appeal. Plus, for me it was ideal weather, overcast, cool and even some mist. I continued to feel good after the run but while I was home walking Mattie. I got a shooting pain in my leg and up my back a little and for a second I couldn’t move. I kept walking and got home and finally broke down and took some Aleve. I woke up this morning and there was a little pain but so much better. Going to take today and tomorrow off and then run again Friday, take off Saturday and then do the Fourth of July run on Sunday.

All this running talk reminded me that I wanted to post a little something about 2 documentaries about running I discovered on Hulu and watched over the past week or so. The first was Spirit of the Marathon which followed runners from the professional athlete to the amateur training for the Chicago Marathon. I especially liked following the stories of the first-time marathoners. It was inspiring to watch these runners train long and hard, struggle with doubt and injuries, and finally realize that they accomplished their goal.  I highly recommend this film.

The second was The Long Green Line which as Hulu’s synopsis says is a Cross Country Running documentary about legendary coach, Joe Newton, and his quest for his 25th Illinois State Title in 50 years, as he teaches boys how to be men. I so wish that more kids had access to coaches like Joe Newton. I guess my one take away was not about the elite members of his team, but all those boys who wanted to be on the team even if they would never help win a meet. All Coach Newton asked of his boys what that they finish what they started. It’s a simple yet powerful statement and can be used in any aspect of life not just sports and that’s how Newton sees it. I would recommend this film as well and it’s free to watch on Hulu for now. Time for lunch!

I was hungry

yesterday like I have not been in a long time. I am not sure why but I think it might have been the peach on the drive home. I love fruit but I think it makes me hungrier. Does this make sense? I think it’s my metabolism. So perhaps I am going to need to balance the fruit with some protein. I’ve read many times that each meal and snack should be a balance of carbs, protein and fat to keep one more satiated. So I guess I better start doing that. I struggle with this because of the limit on my calories and also not feeling satisfied and full with what I eat. Well something to think about. On to a review of the goals from yesterday. The only exception to the accomplishment of all the daily goals was the calories. My limit is 1600 and the total for the day was 1654. I say close enough and really good for me.
I was happy getting on the scale this morning too. Down 2 lbs to 138. I have not been having a glass of my favorite Vihno Verde Espiral wine from Trader Joe’s with dinner. I think it is helping with the weightloss. So I might even have to cut out wine for awhile but I get to thinking that when you ban something you want it even more…like my dark chocolate snack so I treat myself to a little piece each day. I just really love it. So all in moderation.  I snagged a pic of the wine to post. It’s not the boldest wine but I like it and it’s quite reasonable @ 4 bucks a bottle. Okay well I suddenly have a ton of work to do…so I better get to it so I can get home and see if mytrainerbob sent me a DVD well 4 actually. I am excited. I can’t wait to see what they are all about! I’m hoping for a good sweat!!

I did it

I ran another 10k yesterday the Kiwanis Club of Camarillo 5k/10k run. I was hemming and hawing about whether to do it or not, as I had not really trained for it. So on Friday night about an hour before the online deadline I signed up for it. Some friends were going to run it as well so I thought that would be good. Let me tell you it was a tough little course. About 2 1/2 miles in it turns into about another mile or so of gradually uphill and it seems like it won’t end. I had to stop a few times to catch my breath but I finally made it to the downhill part and onto the finish line. I felt so good after completing this. I always do, but getting there is the hard part. I am motivated more than ever to keep up my fitness and exercise and looking at the scale this morning didn’t hurt. I’m down to 136.5. I’m resting today but excited for my total body cuts class tomorrow after work.  I will continue to work in running into my routine so I can stay fit enough for the Love Run in June and perhaps a 5k in May. My next step is to figure out about whether or not I want to get a hybrid bike. Taxes and other money concerns makes me wonder if I can justify the purchase. I think if I took it to Suzy Orman she would DENY me 🙂 Keep you posted on my decision. I should know after April15th. Well off to watch some Last 10 Pounds BootCamp for inspiration and motivation while working on other chores.  Happy Sunday to all!!

A Nice Surprise

Well besides the giveaway posts this has been a rather inactive time for writing on my blog. I am still not sure how I want this blog to work. I think it is going to have to be at my own pace and as time allows. I think where I get lost is that I struggle with a goal. So I need to set some. But enough about this for now.

The nice surprise is that I got on the scale and weighed in @ 138.5. I find this exciting to be where I was before I left for Paso and maybe even lower, I’ll have to check. I find this exciting as I had a few cheat days over the weekend. Wine, chocolate, cookies, ice cream, meat, mashed potatoes, and a lot more. I didn’t even really exercise.  I did really watch what I’ve been eating since Monday though. I’ve been trying to incorporate more protein in my diet.  For breakfast on Monday and Tuesday I drank a whey protein peanut butter chocolate smoothie. Then for lunches including today I’ve been eating more meat, veggies and some brown rice and trying to round out my meals by having a good share of protein, carbs and limited fat.

I also am getting back into my Monday night Body Cuts class.  It has actually turned into a Body Blast class but we still use some weights and I like the strength training a lot. Yesterday my plans had to change due to some last minute help that my nephew needed for his big science test he is having today. I have to admit I had to look up the words myself to refresh my memory. I don’t remember learning such advanced term when I was his age (11 and in the 5th grade).  I hope you did well my buddy. Then Brad our good friend came over for dinner. We had Trader Joe’s Portbello Mushroom raviolis in TJ’s Bolognese sauce and a nice side cesear salad. We skipped the garlic toast which was a good thing as we had an Apple Tart thingy topped with vanillia ice cream all from Trader Joes too.

Tonight I am going to try my hand at some more weight training and a yoga workout. First up is a body circuit workout by Jackie Warner and then a Yoga Meltdown by Jillian Michaels.  I can feel some motivation coming back and it’s nice. Back to work!!

On a side note…down to 139 this morning!!

I’m back

Had a great time with hubby in Paso Robles and drank too much wine! So the weight I lost before our weekend has vanished and I am pretty much where I was when I first started this blog. I have new stats as of February 19, 2010.
Weight 142
Body Fat % 35
Bust 39.5
Waist 35.5
Belly 41.25
Hips 35

I changed the measurements to get a better feel of where I am losing the weight when I do. So I have new waist measurements from the true waist and then also from the fattest part of my belly ;-).
So since the days of these measurements. I am down to 141. It’s been a struggle this week and last, as I’ve had a busy busy week. Still no time nor as much motivation as I would like to get a workout in.

I did find something while reading SHAPE magazine that has motivated me to get back to my blog. I was reading about success stories in the January issue and found one weight loss success stick with it secret which is to share your meals and what she does is to post photos of everything she eats for her blog missymaintains.com

So I am going to start to do this and I’ve already taken pictures of my breakfast, snack, lunch and my afternoon snack which I will eat on my way home before a delicious and likely calorie laden dinner, but we will control our portions to be sure.  So the next post will be coming when I can upload photos. Should be interesting. I definately think about what I am going to eat as I have to take a pic. Well off to see my nephew who turns 11 today and my niece.

2 week stats

It’s been 2 weeks now and I thought I better follow up with my stats for the past 2 weeks.

Weight 142.5
Waist:39.5
Hips:35.5
Bust: 39.5
BMI: 27.1
Waist to Hip : 1.1

It’s pretty much what I was 2 weeks ago except down half a pound.  not exactly surprised as I am still in a bit of a funk about exercising as well as having so many things going on and I didn’t eat as well as I should have. I am hoping tomorrow will be a new start.  So I have to lose about 4.5 pounds now to make my goal. So that’s an average of 2.75 pounds a week. I am going to have to kick it into gear if I am going to make it.

Keep you posted.
